Portrait Photo Shoot at Dollymount Strand
With a few autumnal shoots done in Dublin parks already, I wanted to try a different setting for this portrait shoot. Ruth and I wanted to do something very light and airy and thought that Dublin’s Dollymount Strand would be a good location for such a photo shoot. We agreed to start the photo shoot very early, when the sun was still low and the light quite soft and pretty.
Even though it was 17C outside and sunny (perfect October Bank holiday weekend), it was quite a different story at Bull Island beach, which clearly has its own micro climate. But I did say ‘airy’ above, and that’s exactly what was in store for us at the beach. With the cold off-shore gale pounding us, Ruth never got to wear the dresses that she brought with her for the shoot. It made more sense to stay dressed for the weather and use the elements to our advantage. You can see the way the wind plays with Ruth’s hair in the photos.
Dollymount Strand is one of the city’s most beautiful beaches and Ruth made it even more beautiful. I’ll be sure to visit the beach again in the summer and further explore its beautiful dunes and wildlife. Here’re a few of the images from the day.
P.S. I could not resist digressing on the topic of Dollymount Stand and mentioning that it was used as a setting for an Emporio Armani Autumn/Winter 2014 campaign. The campaign was shot by an amazing Irish photographer Boo George whose work is simply stunning. I’ve hit the ‘replay’ button on the above video too many times.
