Someone asked me what inspires me the other day and I wasn’t quite sure how to answer it. I have thought about it since and realised that I get inspired by many things: people, places, music and music videos, other photographers’ work, my own dreams and different seasons to name but a few.
I suppose my main sources of inspiration are people and interesting places. I often see a person and immediately can visualise this person in a particular scene in a photo or I’d often pass by a location and think to myself ‘This is a perfect setting for a tribal-themed photo shoot’. These thoughts are often random. I also keep a ‘to do’ list where I write down photo shoot ideas that I’d like to try and keep adding new ideas to it. So far, there’s at least a dozen ideas yet to be materialised which will keep me going for a while.
I find Ireland to be an absolutely amazing place in terms of photographic inspiration, with breath-taking mountain- and seascapes close by. As for Dublin, I’ve written a separate blog posts on the subject a while ago – 40 Great Locations to Shoot Portraits in Dublin.
I also get inspired by people that are passionate and dedicated to their art (whatever it may be). ‘Portrait of a Dancer’ series that I’m working on at the moment has been an endless source of inspiration, for example. I’ve found working with various dancers to be so stimulating that I keep adding new ideas to my ‘to do’ list. As a result, I’ll be extending this project to involve 10 shoots and not 5 as originally planned.
Please check in over the coming weeks, as I will be posting more examples of recent portraiture work and please do give me a call if you’d like to create something beautiful together.
